How to Play Nonogram

Nonogram (also known as Picross or Griddler) is a picture-logic puzzle. The aim is to fill certain squares in a grid to reveal a hidden image using the number clues beside each row and column.

Basic rules

• Each number tells you how many consecutive squares in that row or column must be filled.
• Multiple numbers mean multiple groups of filled cells separated by at least one blank cell.
• All logic — no guessing. Each step can be reasoned out using the clues.

How to start

Start with large numbers that almost fill the entire line — they give the most information. Use the overlap method: if a clue is longer than half the line, some of its cells must be filled in the center.

Solving techniques

• Cross-checking: Alternate between rows and columns to find cells confirmed by both directions.
• Mark empty cells: Place X’s or dots where you’re sure a cell cannot be filled. This prevents accidental mistakes.
• Edge logic: When a line starts or ends with a big clue, count from that edge to mark guaranteed filled cells.

Finishing the picture

Continue using deduction until the grid forms a complete image. Every Nonogram has a unique, solvable pattern — no guessing needed.
